New Op shop top
Although J found this fantastic top in a local op shop - we have been doing lots of arguing about who will be wearing it.

Baking Rockets
Inspired by a reading a kids craft book of Mum's Kd decided that the making of a Treasure Chest; Rocket and Snake was in order. So I whipped up some salt dough and away we went.
It was really great working from a book as Kd started getting into new techniques to work with the dough - especially creating surface texture.
OOOps I couldn't help it - here is my Cooka Cooka (with which I have a love hate relationship!) that cooked up Kd's salt dough!
Don't you love that concentration. He is painting his treasure box - he also drew a map for where he did his treasure box in the garden - must scan this!

Laminton Baking
Kd made a special request, inspired by a recent Play School episode to make lamingtons.
As you know lamingtons require a spongy sort of base to put the chocolate icing and coconut on - but this caused a great feeling of terror inside of me as my oven just isn't up to this sort of cake. (my darling Cooka Cooka!)
So on the phone to my Nan, (Kd's great Nan) I learnt all about snow balls -and my mind was cast back to eating loads of those yummy things Nan made us.
Basically you use a patty pan cake recipe (thanks Mrs Abbott for her classic recipe passed onto me by Mum), and use a gem scone tray you cook up your cakes, when cooled chocolate icing and coconut roll and when this is all set you cut in a little opening for a dollup of cream! Snow Balls!
Below is a little photo essay of our afternoon's cooking yesterday.

Boring Gardening made glorious by mud
I have found it really hard to be motivated in the garden this summer - we did have some tank water but that went on washing the cars some how. However with the cooler weather we have had and also a few days of rain I have gotten myself & my son motivated.
On Friday we got into the vegie patch and gathered seeds from plants that have gone to seed and also started putting compost on the patch from the chook house in readiness for planting again in March.
Here is Kd gathering seeds - he loves using the secators and then writing on the bag. But then suddenly gardening got VERY boring.
Until I started bringing over the compost then something exciting happened in the garden - he created MUD!
YAY!!!!
