making birthday presents
I spied this great necklace made of string, wonderful large wooden beads and ribbon at a kids store a little while back and taking on my mother's famous words "I can make that" - I took down the idea in my "little book of things to make" and collected the items for making.
I thought it would be great activity for Kd and I to do - and whip up a birthday present for Hj
She will love it sparkly and pink!
Kd came up with the great idea of the bracelet.
Making together turned out to be an excellent opportunity to talk about writing down your ideas and preparing to bring your idea to life. As Kd told me he is a forgetful kid (sounds like a term his teacher uses)- and I replied so am I and then we spent some time together looking at my ideas book that I carry around with me everywhere. Complete with jottings down of ideas and sketches.
He took his ideas on the back of an envelope today to school - he wants to make a pair of sissors out of paper using split pins - I LOVE this idea! Looking forward to see what happened today when he gets home from school.

Extra activities
I have caught some sort of bug and have attempted to get the kids involved in extra activities. Kd swimming lessions and gym. Hj dance class. I turn into one of those screaming Mums that everyone looks at really embaressed.
After dropped Kd off to school it was time to go to dance class and Hj announced Mummy I just want to stay home with you. Fair enough I said.
So we made a cubby and had morning tea, went for a bike ride and played dollies.

Family outing for Grandpa
Had a relaxing family outing for Grandpa (my Dad's) birthday yesterday afternoon. We caught a train from Bendigo train station and at 75kms and hour went to Echuca.
Perfect weather, the days are nearly falling into Spring. As you can see there was plenty of chatting and indulging and enjoying the mighty Murray.
I took the kids for a walk around the historical displays of steam engines, that cut up all those magnificent red gum. Kd said that the machines smelt like Pa's tractor. I didn't at first notice the smell - then memories rushed back to me. Hard concrete, the humm of a milking machine and that little room out the back of the cow shed and the motor that sat there. Dusty grease smells. My favourite always smell. Dad.
Today is a special day too as it is two years now since my Grandfather, my children's Great Grandfather passed away. I miss him. He was the grumpy of the grumpies.
