Kd's first stitching embroidery -

Yesterday afternoon Kd decided that he wanted to do some more sewing. Inspired by our ribbon embroidery of the day before and also by Soulemama's post and pic of her son (seriously who isn't - I think I read this post when I was at work in Melbourne and started crying - she just grounds me right back into the reality of being a mother)

Any how get got right into it finding an image - doing the drawing onto the fabric - choosing the colour of floss and away we went - although didn't get a great deal of stitching done. This takes a lot of concentration that he doesn't have right now - but hopefully we will return to this.

Kd embroidery afternoon

Kd and I like to spend a little time in the studio - sometimes it is a lot sometimes not long at all.

Today we did a few activities - but one I have been wanting to do with him and also Hj - although she was having her afternoon snooze was some hoop embroidery.

Inspired from this site we gave it a go

On this site it recommends this activity for a toddler - but Kd found it a bit tricky - he was Ok once he got his rhythm for pushing from the top to the bottom, then the bottom back to the top. But it didn't grab his attention for long - much more interested in using ribbon to make a ninja costume with.

bubble picture & large paint stain on studio rug

We tried out making bubble pictures - soap and paint then press onto paper

However the pressing onto paper wasnt so interesting as blowing HUGE bubbles.

The session ended in a large puddle of green paint all over the studio rug

Strategic Strewing

The other night I did some quick card making for some gifts I was putting together. I left them on the studio table - when Kd spotted them he said - cute! I want to make some.

So cutting up some images for him he did his own card making

This is the first time I have done making like this (other than out of a book; where the image in the book inspires Kd's making activities) - what I mean is that this is the first time I have made the final craft activity and as a result has inspired Kd to make his own.

Generally when we do making activities what happens is we talk about an idea, collect materials and get making - sometimes this can be a bit of a "cold" way to get started and inspiration happening.

I read on a home schooling blog that this technique is called strategic strewing - I am sure my crafty mother try this technique out on us kiddies too.
